Refined Drawings!

These are the final drawings I have chosen to use! I am really happy with the outcome of both. I think from last year my drawing is a big improvement!

These are some of my drawings from my sketch book, I just used black acrylic ink for all my drawings, the idea is to have all the threats than man poses to animals as silhouettes and over lap them in some way to make a final design! The final design idea I have in mind is to apply the pattern to a notebook, so I need to think of ideas for a background design that will bring everything together.  

Natural World

I have neglected my blog for quite a while.. this is where I am up to so far !

Originally I was working on the non place brief over the summer and into the first week of starting back at uni, but decided to change to the natural world because I hit a wall with my drawings, I think this was mainly because I wasn't finding my subject matter particularly inspiring!

I decided to move onto the natural world brief! I chose to go down the route of endangered species at first, the plan was to illustrate numerous endangered species and the threats that caused their situations! Going at it from this angle did not work I think because I was constricting myself with only a few animals !

Speaking with a tutor I then came to the decision to just make my work about the threat of man to animals, this was a big help with my drawings as I had more freedom with it.

Ballerina's Final

These are my final designs for this brief i have ended up really enjoying this brief and even though it took me forever to come up with ideas i made it in the end!! I am going to narrow these down to 4 but i havent decided which ones yet!

Ballerina's 3...

These are my ballerina's but iv added tutu's to them, i really like how the black and white dancers and the bright coloured tutu's are working together im really happy with the outcome !! On some i have done numerous tests with the colour tutu i want to use.

These are my more refined drawings for the ballerina's i plan to add colour to them by painting the dresses but i am going to paint these seperatly and combine the two later in photoshop.



Discussion Forum

This discussion was based on the differences between personal and commissioned illustrations.

- Examples were given such as illustrator Matthew Richardson said about his work that he prefers his personal illustrations to his commissioned ones!
- Others thought there was no difference between the two!
- Some said they preferred an open brief without restriction on style of working where they can set themselves personal targets within the brief.

The discussion was then turned onto us and asked for our own opinions about how we like to work, i think personally when given a brief i like it to be a little restrained as when i have a really open brief i struggle some times with ideas and where to go with itand end up trailing off in the wrong direction !!
