Lino Prints

These are prints i transferred to lino from my line drawings, i think they really work well tho i may re-do the left one and maybe make the line thicker as I plan to do reduction prints and use two colours !!

Im not sure if i want to use these two prints, I cant decide if they work as well as the first two..

Screen Print Idea

In the story of the six legged antelope there is the character of a hunter, i didnt want to be as obvious as a man firing an arrow so i decided to just have the design of an arrow and have it as a repeated pattern for the background of the wallpaper! My plan is too use a soft colour pallet, to go along with the theme of it being set in heaven !

Antelope Line Drawings

I tried drawing my antelope using simple line drawing using ink and a pipette, I thought they worked really well and went a bit ink drawing mad !! :)

Narrative Surface

For my narrative surface project iv decided to do a wallpaper design based on the 6 legged antelope story from The Book Of Imaginary Beings by Jorge Luis Borges.
I have decided to use a combination of screen printing and lino printing to create my wallpaper!
I started to draw ideas for the antelope character but i dont think these drawings are working at all !!
 here they are anyway !

Jill Calder

I have only recently been introduced to the work of Jill Calder and i love it !! I really like the use of line and shape in her work and the vibrant use of colour, I think her work has a really playful  feel to it!!

Simon Pemberton

I love the work of Simon Pemberton he is a mixed media artist and uses a variety of media such as mark making and drawing, then brings all the elements together digitally, I love his use of colour and always find myself drawing inspiration from his work for my projects.

Louise Body

I think the work of Louise Body is brilliant, she screen prints illustrations of flora fauna to create unique wallpaper. She uses a soft colour pallet which i think gives a vintage feel to her work. I love the delicate detail in her designs and particularly like her bird wallpapers

Antelopes With Six Legs

Antelopes With Six Legs
"Siberian myth attributes six legs to the first Antelopes. With such an endowment it was difficult or impossible to catch them; Tunk-Poj,the divine huntsman, made some special skates with the wood of a sacred tree which creaked incessantly and that a barking dog had revealed to him. The skates creaked too and flew with the speed of an arrow; to control and restrain their course, he found it necessary to wedge into the skates some blocks made from the wood of another magic tree. All over heaven Tunk-Poj hunted the Antelope. The beast, tired out, fell to the ground, and Tunk-Poj cut off its hindmost pair of legs. 'Men' said Tunk-Poj, 'grow smaller and weaker every day. How are they going to hunt the Antelopes if I myself am barely able to?'. From that day on, Antelopes have been quadrupeds". from ‘The Book of Imaginary Beings’, by Jorge Luis Borges.

Again these are just rough sketches i have yet to build on them !!

I am planning to try lino printing some of my antelope drawings, this is my lino cut ! pictures of the outcome to follow :)

The Monkey Of The Inkpot

The Monkey Of The Inkpot
"This animal, common in the north, is four or five inches long; its eyes are scarlet and its fur is jet black, silky, and soft as a pillow. It is marked by a curious instinct - the taste for India ink. When a person sits down to write, the monkey squats cross-legged near by with one forepaw folded over the other, waiting until the task is over. Then it drinks what is left of the ink, and afterwards sits back on its haunches, quiet and satisfied".- from ‘The Book of Imaginary Beings’, by Jorge Luis Borges.

Some rough sketches !!

And more experiments with printing, i love how these came out !!

The Kraken

The Kraken

Below the thunders of the upper deep,
Far far beneath in the abysmal sea,
His ancient, dreamless, uninvaded sleep
The Kraken sleepeth: faintest sunlights flee
About his shadowy sides: above him swell
Huge sponges of millennial growth and height;
And far away into the sickly light,
From many a wondrous grot and secret cell
Unnumbered and enormous polypi
Winnow with giant fins the slumbering green.
There hath he lain for ages and will lie
Battering upon huge seaworms in his sleep,
Until the latter fire shall heat the deep;
Then once by men and angels to be seen,
In roaring he shall rise and on the surface die.

Some experiments with some simple prints..

Imaginary Beings

Part of my narrative sequence brief was to collect a few descriptions from 'The Book Of Imaginary Beings - Jorge Luis Borges' and create a sense of place sketch book. I have yet to experiment with different media and go a bit mad but heres what i have so far :)...
